Privacy policy

Spite is made by Acorn Works, LLC, in Ohio, USA ("we", "us"). This explains what we collect when you use the Spite app and this website. The short version: your recordings stay on your computer, and we never receive them.

The Spite app

• Recordings (screen video, voice, clicks, typing and the windows you used) are saved only on your computer, in your Documents folder. We never receive them. You can delete them any time.
• AI apps you connect (such as Claude, Cursor, Codex or ChatGPT) can read your recordings through Spite when you ask them to. Their own privacy policies cover what they do with them.
• Transcription happens on your computer by default; your voice isn't sent anywhere. Only if you add your own OpenAI API key does Spite send your narration to OpenAI to turn it into text, and OpenAI's policies apply to that. Your key is stored on your computer.
• License check. To activate and check your license, Spite sends your license key and your computer's name to Lemon Squeezy, about once a day.
• Updates and news. Spite checks GitHub for new versions and announcements every few hours. GitHub sees your IP address, like any website you visit.
• Logs stay on your computer. They only reach us when you click Contact support in Spite and choose to send them. Before they leave your computer, Spite removes API keys and license keys and replaces your account's folder name. They never include recordings, transcripts or screenshots. We keep them for 30 days to help you, then delete them.

Buying Spite

Lemon Squeezy sells Spite for us as the merchant of record. It collects your name, email, billing details and payment, and handles tax. We see your name, email, country and order, but never your full card number. Lemon Squeezy's privacy policy covers how it handles your payment details.

Email updates

If you sign up for updates, your email address is stored with Lemon Squeezy, which sends our emails. We only email you about Spite, and every email has an unsubscribe link.

This website

The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP addresses) to run and protect it. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. On the welcome page after you buy, your license key stays in your browser and is not sent to our servers.

What we don't do

We don't sell your information or share it for advertising.

To see, correct or delete what we hold about you, or to ask anything about privacy, email evan@acornworksai.com. We'll answer within 30 days.

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for big changes, tell you in Spite or by email.
